MEANINGFUL SCIENCE

A NON-INVASIVE DEVICE FOR PARKINSON'S

CUE1, a non-invasive wearable device for Parkinson’s, utilises pulsed
cueing and focused vibrotactile stimulation to reduce symptoms of slowness and stiffness resulting in improved movement.

device for Parkinson's

Developed by a team of engineers, doctors and neuroscientists, CUE1 offers a novel, non-invasive approach to increasing quality of life for people with Parkinson’s. Using removable medical adhesive to rest on the sternum, CUE1 can provide an immediate aid, activated by the simple push of a button.

Pilot tests have resulted in an average improvement of 16% in movement tasks such as using tools, manipulating objects, walking and more. Most importantly participants felt their movement was smoother and better controlled.

HOW DOES CUE1 HELP WITH PARKINSON'S?

The benefits of vibration in Parkinson’s were first noted by French neurologist and professor of anatomical pathology, Jean-Martin Charcot in the 19th century. Professor Charcot made the observation that patients felt more comfortable after a train ride. He went on to invent a chair which simulated the vibrations experienced by his patients with Parkinson’s.

CUE1 works by delivering gentle vibratory stimulus to the peripheral nervous system, producing a characteristic cortical response which eases the typical stiffness and slowness symptoms associated with Parkinson’s.

Users of CUE1 For Parkinson’s report feeling that movement is better controlled and they can move smoother, easier and faster whilst wearing the device.

DISCREET MEDICATION ALERTS

Taking medication at the right time each day is an important aspect of managing Parkinson’s and as we were reminded during our initial testing phase, can often be difficult to manage in itself.

With the suggestions of our participants, we incorporated a discrete medicine reminder system into the device that is both intuitive and adjustable and reminds you to take your medication with a gentle, discreet and identifiable vibration.

One of our main philosophies is to make a device for people with Parkinson’s, with people with Parkinson’s and we’re proud to be following through with this.

With CUE1‘s discreet medication alerts, managing symptoms and getting the most from treatment will be much easier for people with Parkinson’s.

SYMPTOM TRACKING

CUE1 has an easy and simple to use app which is integrated with the device and allows users to instruct the device when to remind them to take their medicine.

It also tracks how long the device was used for each day and offers symptom tracking too, allowing both users and their healthcare providers to interpret the efficacy of the device on their symptoms.

The symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are numerous and can be difficult to communicate and quantify. The variability in symptoms day-by-day and hour-by-hour can make this even more difficult. This poses a challenge when explaining how they have been to their Parkinson’s specialists and family.

We are working with people with Parkinson’s and Parkinson’s specialists to explore the best ways to monitor symptoms and track day-by-day variation and longer-term progression.

HELPING PEOPLE WITH PARKINSON'S

“I moved easier and smoother”

One of our participants had stopped going to her dancing classes due to her Parkinson’s disease.

She had a 29% improvement in stiffness and slowness with the wearable CUE1 device.

This motivated her to go back to her dancing classes which she had missed sorely. This is our aim – to help people with Parkinson’s get back to the activities they used to love.

LIGHTWEIGHT AND DISCREET

The device itself is about the size and weight of a small pebble with a slim profile and comes in a variety of colours. This means it can be worn discreetly under garments or shown off as an accessory, whatever is your preference!

CUE1 can be worn anywhere on the body and we encourage you to find the place that works best for you. However, our user testers found that placing it on the sternum produced the best result.

The device attaches using medical adhesive patches, so it can be easily removed and replaced whenever you need. The patches are breathable, waterproof and sweatproof, so should last up to 14 days. Replacements are stored in a swing-out compartment in the device case.
