Using the CUE App v2.0

0. Introduction

The CUE device can be used as a standalone device, but you can maximise its functionality by pairing it with our CUE app. By connecting your CUE device to the app via Bluetooth, you can customise the vibration settings to suit your personal preferences. The app also offers additional features, including medication reminders, symptom tracking, and games, with more features being added regularly.

For step-by-step guidance, please scroll down.

1. Download and setup

First, download the CUE app from the App Store on Apple devices or the Google Play Store on Android devices.

When you open the app for the first time, you’ll be guided through some setup steps, including agreeing to our terms and conditions and allowing the app to access Bluetooth.

2. Connecting via Bluetooth

After completing your profile, you will be prompted with the question, “Would you like to connect your device?” If you prefer not to connect to a CUE device at this time, tap “Maybe later.” If you are ready to connect your CUE device, tap “Connect.”

Please ensure your device is active by pressing its button twice or placing it on the charging station. Then, please check if your smartphone’s Bluetooth is turned on.

Once your CUE device and smartphone are ready to connect, tap “Next,” and the app will search for your CUE device.

If you don’t want to connect to a CUE device, you can simply tap Skip Pairing for Now. If your CUE device is active and nearby, it should appear on the screen. For multiple CUE devices, check the serial number, which is printed on the underside of the gift box in which the device is packaged.

If your app cannot find any devices, please make sure your smartphone or tablet’s Bluetooth is turned on in settings. Then, try either pressing the CUE device’s button or placing the device on its charger to ensure the device is awake and advertising its Bluetooth connection.

Once the app has found your device, please tap on it to connect. This should result in a short spinning blue light animation on the CUE device, indicating that your device is connected. Once the connection is established, you can assign a name to your CUE device, which helps you easily identify it within the app later on.

3. Re-connecting to the CUE1

After the initial setup, the app will automatically connect to your CUE device 10 seconds after you open it, as long as the device is within range and its Bluetooth is active. To activate the Bluetooth on your CUE device, either press its button to cycle the power off and then on, or place the device on its charger; the Bluetooth advertising is active for 5 minutes out of the charging station but always whilst on the charging station.

If you need to repeat the connection setup process, such as when connecting to a different CUE device or experiencing connection issues, simply press the “Connect my CUE” button on the home screen to proceed with connecting your device.

The app will automatically disconnect from your CUE device after 5 minutes of inactivity or if you terminate the app.

4. Changing stimulation settings

Once your device is connected, you can modify the stimulation settings to better suit your personal comfort or enhance its effectiveness. This customisation allows you to tailor the device’s performance to your specific needs.

Access this feature by tapping the “Stimulation settings” button or the image of your CUE device on the home screen, or tap the “MY CUE” menu from the bottom bar.

Here, you will see three sliders that you can tap or drag to adjust the stimulation.

The ‘Strength’ slider adjusts how intense the vibration feels. ‘Pules Length’ controls how long each vibration pulse lasts, and ‘Rest Length’ determines the pause length between each vibration. You can visually see these settings at the top of the screen, which graphically represents the vibrations of the CUE device.

Once you’ve adjusted the sliders, please ensure to tap “Apply”. Your current settings will be implemented immediately.

If you wish to save your adjusted settings, simply press the “Add to my settings” button after adjusting the stimulation to your preference. This will save your specific configuration so you can easily access it later.

5. Managing Saved Settings and Quick Mode Tiles

To view your saved settings, scroll down on the page. You can apply any of these settings to your CUE device by tapping on the corresponding setting tile. When you tap a tile, it opens the settings for that preset, allowing you to make adjustments and save the updated configuration directly.

You can also set up Quick Mode tiles on this page, which will appear on your home screen. We suggest selecting the settings you use most frequently. To add them, click the “+ Add” button, select up to 6 presets, and click the “Save” button. Alternatively, you can easily press and drag the tiles to the Quick Mode section. These preset titles will then appear on your home screen for easy access.

To delete Quick Mode tiles or saved presets, press the ‘Edit’ button to enter edit mode.

*Please note that you need to save your personal settings first before adding them to the Quick Mode.

If you wish to revert stimulation settings to default, simply tap the “Default” button under the Quick Mode section.

If you would like any assistance or advice with this process, please do get in touch with us, and we’ll be happy to help. :)

6. Recommended Stimulation Settings

Everyone’s symptoms are different, and some may find certain stimulation settings more effective for their symptoms, or simply more comfortable, than others. Your CUE device comes preloaded with settings that we’ve found most effective for many people, but highly encourage you to try other settings to see what suits you, especially if you find the default settings less effective than you’d hoped for, or are having trouble getting used to the sensation.

Some people prefer a softer Strength, while others even adjust the Pulse Length for different activities, like exercise. You can always reset the stimulation settings to default by tapping Default at the bottom of the stimulation settings page. If you would like any assistance or advice with this process, please do get in touch ([email protected]) and we’ll be happy to help!

7. My Diary

On the ‘My Diary’ page, you can manage your medications, mood, symptoms, and profile. If you haven’t added any information yet, you’ll see a screen like this. Let’s begin by adding your medication.

7.1. My Diary: Medication

To add your medications, please click ‘+ Add medication’ button. Please note that you need to add each medication individually.

Once you have selected or entered your medication, click ‘Next.’ Then, choose the type and dosage of the medication. You’ll be directed to a page where you can set up alerts. Enter the necessary details, and we’ll send you notifications to remind you to take your medication, ensuring you never miss a dose.

After setting all of these and clicking “Next,” you can review the details you’ve entered for this medication. On this page, you can also make changes to each section by clicking on them.

Once you click the “Save” button, the medication will be added to your calendar.

If you need to add a new medication, please scroll down the page. You’ll find the “My Medications” page, where you can add a new medication. By pressing the ‘Edit’ icon on the medication item, you can edit or delete the medication.

7.2. My Diary: Mood

If you log your mood using the ‘Check-in’ function on the home screen, the app will automatically save this data to your profile, so you don’t need to enter it again.

However, if you haven’t already checked in, the app will prompt you to record your mood for the day. Simply click the face icon to begin, then proceed by clicking ‘Next.’ If you have additional details to add about your mood, you can enter them in the ‘Memo’.

After you log your mood, the CUE App provides tailored recommendations to help enhance or maintain your mood, along with useful information on mental health care. You can easily access these suggestions and articles by clicking on each information box.

Once you’ve recorded your mood, you can revisit this page anytime and re-record your mood by clicking the ‘Re-record it’ button.

To monitor your mood over time, click on the chart icon located in the top right corner of the screen. You can track and export your progress on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. Additionally, you can review your progress using the chart view as needed.

7.3. My Diary: Symptoms

To add and manage your symptoms, navigate to the ‘Symptoms’ page in the app. If this is your first time adding symptoms, the page will initially appear like this.

To begin adding your symptoms, press the ‘Get started’ button and follow the provided steps. If this is your first time adding symptoms, please note that the setup process might take a little longer. Once you have added your symptoms, you can monitor them daily by checking in through the CUE App. Regularly tracking your symptoms is beneficial as it helps you communicate more effectively with your doctor.

If you’ve already checked your symptoms from the ‘Check-in’ function on the home screen, the data will automatically be saved on the ‘Symptoms’ page.

The app will prompt you to record today’s symptoms. To do this, simply click on the status icon, and then click ‘Next’ to proceed.

After saving them, you’ll see a screen like the one below. You can always update your symptoms for the day by clicking each symptom’s box, then change the status and click “Save” to apply it.

If you are experiencing any new symptoms today that you haven’t previously registered, you can add them by clicking the ‘Add symptom today’ button

At the bottom of the Symptoms page, you will find useful information sourced from esteemed institutions such as Parkinson’s Europe, Davis Phinney, and Parkinson’s UK. We will update it over time to provide personalised information tailored to your mood and symptoms.

8. Events

In the ‘Events’ menu, you’ll find our latest updates on events, community interactions, and information about CUE devices.

You can read our blogs by visiting “Charco Stories”, stay updated with news features in “Media & Press”, and find useful information about Parkinson’s under the “Useful Information” tab.

You can also conveniently register for our monthly open day, Parkinson’s talk event, and occasional special events directly from this page.

9. Additional Features

The other features of the app, My Diary, Events and Symptom-tracking Games can be used even when the CUE device is not connected to the app. We hope these will help everyone manage and communicate fluctuations in their symptoms over time. We are continually working on the app and we will be adding new features soon, so please keep an eye out for updates.

Additionally, if you have any feedback or questions about the app, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us by emailing [email protected].
